Gre verbal section(STEP 1) is all about understanding the format and question properly.
The verbal section contains 3 types of tasks:
1.Reading Comprehension(9-11
questions in each set,two or three passages)
2.Text Completion(4-5
questions in each set)
3.Sentence Equivalence(4-5
questions in each set)
1.Reading
Comprehension:
Contains
two or three passages.
Passage
type may be varied as small,medium,large in the sense of length
Difficulty
level will be medium and tough
Takes
time to reads
Handling RC
Read the passage once and
underline the key words.
Read once again passage for
clarity(if required)
Try to score more in RC
Each question has 5
options,so answer accurately by elimating the other options,which are not
pertaining to the passage,so discard them
2.Text Completion:
Each question has 5,6,9 options
depending on single blank,double,triple blank.
Try
to complete the sentence on your own (but never directly try to fit the options)
Choose
a word that makes sense so you,then cross check the options
There
will two parts.
One
will tell something about the subject or object
Other
part of sentence will support or contradict.
There
will be certain key words with will we can simplify them.

3.Sentence Equivalence:
Choose words or phrases to complete a sentence.
The word list you have studied may be useful here.
From the options three or four will be having same meaning
Other two may have negative meaning.So discard them
Then try filter the correct two options from four left over
